MALAYS STILL FOR RACE BASED POLITICS

I just came back from a buka puasa and sembahyang terawih at a neighbour’s house.

After berbuka puasa and terawih prayers, the common subject among the neighbours was of course the current political scenario and in particular when PM will eventually step down and Tun will become an adviser to UMNO. The neighbourhood seemed to discard as irrelevant the politics brought about by DSAI as the defacto head of the Opposition and the inability of PAS to take a constructive leadership role in the Pakatan Rakyat albeit safeguarding the interest of the Malays and Islam.

Irrespective that the leaders of the various leaders of the Opposition has commented about their commitment to the Constitution and the Special rights, the developments on the ground in the 3 Pakatan States namely Selangor, Perak and Penang says differently. Yes, whatever goodness that Pakatan bragged about progress in the states under their control seemed insignificant; the neighbours see things differently. Multi-racialism parties have no place in the hearts of the neighbours.

The general conclusion was that PM must go soonest as he has done nothing effectively and as one UMNO man said, the bulk of UMNO grassroots also wants him out for the greater interest of UMNO and the Nation. The Malays need a strong leader as a replacement, someone who will bring back control and sanity among the races. Reforms of freedom and tolerance brought about by PM were identified as one of the major causes for the state of affairs and uncertainty. In fact, many were disgusted with RPK writings and the foolishness of Ms Ambiga and the Bar Council.

I too got generally the same feedback at the nearby surau which I attended almost every night for my terawih prayers.
